Sixth graders in Jasper County leaned over miniature houses, testing how insulation and window shades changed the energy needed to keep each model cool. The activity was part of IPE’s first mobile Energy Lab visit.
The program carries hands-on lessons to schools that may be far from a science museum or technical training center. Students build simple circuits, compare renewable resources and hear from local lineworkers and engineers.

Connecting lessons to careers
Teachers receive follow-up materials aligned with Indiana science standards. High school visits also cover apprenticeships, engineering pathways, vegetation management and cybersecurity careers.
The Energy Lab is scheduled to visit 24 schools during the 2026–27 academic year.
